Cech's medical next week

Petr Cech’s move to Arsenal from Chelsea will not be completed until next week as he is yet to have his medical with the Gunners, according to Sky sources.

Arsenal have agreed a £10.9m fee for the Czech Republic international goalkeeper, but the transfer cannot be finalised until Cech has undergone his medical, which is set to take place from the start to the middle of next week.

It is understood that Cech has already agreed personal terms in principle with Arsenal.

If the deal does go through, as is now widely expected, Cech could be eligible for Arsenal's first game of the season - the Community Shield on August 2 when their opponents will be Premier League champions Chelsea, where Cech has won a string of major honours in his 11-year spell with the club.

The 33-year-old has one year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge but has been searching for a new employer after spending much of last season as second choice 'keeper behind Thibaut Courtois.

Chelsea captain John Terry said on Monday that he believes Arsenal will be buying an extra 12-15 points a season if they complete a deal for Cech.

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Bob Wilson thinks the Gunners’ move for Cech is an "amazing possibility".

"You have to look at the impact a 'keeper like Cech has on those guys in front of him," Wilson told Sky Sports News HQ.

"He has been there since 2004 and he is a Chelsea legend because of the authority he has and the presence he gives.

"Arsenal are now in a very strong position. They have paid off the (Emirates) stadium and have a very good squad with a really good group of British players in there."
